Power Design -> Progressives

LDCA FreeForm progressives can be offered with varying degrees of customization – from “Basic” to “Advanced” to “Ultimate” power designs:

LDCA Basic Lens Power Designs. This lens is ordered with basic prescription data. Frame data measurements can be provided, but they only will be used to optimize thickness. The resulting design will be similar to existing traditional front side progressives with the prescription ground into the back side of the lens.

These lenses are made offering a basic product that the dispensing optician can easily understand. The advantages of a LDCA Basic FreeForm lens vs. traditional lenses are:

• Optimal freedom for base curve selection and material selection
• Digital FreeForm surfacing simply improves traditional power designs
• Multiple corridor lengths available for improved fit based on frame selected
• All FreeForm lenses have huge manufacturing advantages

LDCA Advanced Lens Designs with User Power. This lens is ordered with basic prescription data but the power design is calculated with User Power optimization (explained below). Unlike a traditional progressive, LDCA can customize the lens power design specifically for each patient’s Rx, improving the perceived prescription viewed as the patient moves their eyes around the lens. This is one of the main advantages of LDCA FreeForm lenses. Frame data measurements can be provided, but they only will be used to optimize thickness.

The advantages of a LDCA Advanced FreeForm lens vs. traditional lenses are:

• User power optimization as the patient moves their eyes around the lens
• Optimal freedom for base curve selection and material selection
• Multiple corridor lengths available for improved fit based on frame selected
• All FreeForm lenses have huge manufacturing advantages

A LDCA Advanced design lens with User Power optimization recalculates the design for the user’s eye movement.

LDCA Ultimate Lens. This lens is ordered with the same parameters as the basic and advanced lens designs including User Power optimization. The lens is further optimized to yield the correct power for the patient by adjusting for the wearer’s pantoscopic and wrapping angles, plus wearer vertex distance. On top of the advantages of the basic and advanced design lens, these lenses provide full customization of each lens according to the user’s frame and viewing angles

Traditionally if a frame tracing is not available, labs have asked for the frame’s box measurements (DBL, A, B and ED) or diameter to determine how the unique shape of each frame should effect the final design.

LDCA “Ultimate lens design calculations” go much further. The measurements of the pantoscopic angle, the vertex, (the distance between the eye and the back of the lens when mounted in the frame) and the ztilt (the maximum angle of which the lens is mounted to the frame’s eye wire) can be included to further improve the viewable regions of each design. These measurements become critical with the use of wrap frames and higher diopter prescriptions.

The advantages of a LDCA Ultimate FreeForm lens vs. traditional lenses are:

• Pantoscopic and wrapping angles, plus wearer vertex distance optimization
• User power optimization as patient moves their eyes around the lens
• Optimal freedom for base curve selection and material selection
• Multiple corridor lengths available for improved fit based on frame selected
• All FreeForm lenses have huge manufacturing advantages
