Lens Inventory

Labs are no longer required to stock thousands of front molded progressives. These dinosaurs will go the way of the audio 8 track tape and the computer 3.5” floppy. All semi-finished inventory will be Single Vision front sided blanks. Instead of stocking 4 or 5 base curves, 8 to 10 different adds and both right and left eyes (minimum 64 SKU's per lens style), they now simply have to stock the Single Vision blanks in different base curves and that's for one style and one material.

Just to drive this home – CR-39, Poly or Trivex, 1.56, 1.60, 1.67. That's at least 5 materials for each style multiplied by 100 traditional lens styles multiplied by a minimum of 64 SKU's per style (and there are more) so that’s at least 32,000 SKU's. Now with all progressive styles stored in the lab’s FreeForm design software, the lab only needs to stock 4 or 5 base curves times 5 materials = 25 SKU's to process any progressive. Let's be generous and expand the base curve availability to 10 (better cosmetics and more choices) so we have replaced a minimum of 32,000 SKU's with 50 and have a broader selection of base curves. Add more variables for Photochromics and Polarized options and the savings and efficiencies in ordering, stocking, picking and receiving are massive!
