So why is FreeForm better than traditional design and manufacturing methods? The discussion can be split between manufacturing and power design advantages. Either one justifies the decision to switch to FreeForm manufacturing.

Manufacturing -> General

Any lens style or material using Single Vision front sided blanks

LDCA FreeForm progressives (including Office/Computer and Anti-fatigue) are manufactured using ANY standard spherical Single Vision semi-finished blank. The same lens for the same prescription can be made on any material (including CR-39, poly, Trivex, mid-index, hi-index, Transitions, SunSensors and Polarized), and on a wide range of different base curves.

Corridor Lengths

Traditional progressive designs have fixed corridor lengths based on the front side mold from which the lens is cast. A take it or leave it approach.

LDCA lens styles give you the option to control the length of each corridor, by offering 3 or 4 fitting heights with each design including the position of the pupil with respect to the beginning of the progression corridor.

Base Curve Selection Criteria

The Base Curve Selection Criteria means: Which curve shall we select for each prescription on a given material? This criteria is just another part of the overall design. You can choose flatter blanks for aesthetic reasons, or you can select a base curve to improve optical quality.
